록 마니아 중 얼마나 많은 사람이 이 장르가 가진 매력 중 기타 솔로를 최고로 꼽을지는 모르겠다. 아무튼 기타 솔로가 없는 록 음악은 어딘가 허전한 것은 사실이다. 록 음악을 좋아한다면 각자 마음속에 가장 좋아하는 기타 솔로 한 두 곡씩은 반드시 가지고 있지 않을까? 당신은 어떤 곡에서 연주를 최고 기타 솔로로 꼽고 있는가?
'롤링스톤 매거진'에서 세계 최고 기타 솔로 100선을 뽑았다. 어떤 기준에서 뽑았는지 모호하긴 하다. 설명에는 "판매량이나 라디오 방송 횟수가 기준이 아니라 오직 기타 연주 실력만으로 뽑았다. 또한, 솔로 연주가 곡의 핵심이며 단순히 멜로디를 반복하는 것이 아닌지도 고려했다"라고 하지만, 그러기에는 뭔가 없는 곡이 좀 많은 느낌이다. 음반으로 발매되지 않고 Youtube에서만 들을 수 있는 곡까지 선정됐다. 물론 컨트리 뮤직 등 록이 아닌 곡들도 다수다. 이래저래 마니아들 사이에 불만이 많은 리스트가 됐다.
